wooden memorials

In many ways, wooden memorial carvings are some of the most diverse, challenging and rewarding of all my carvings. Through accommodating each individual or families most particular needs, I’ve had unique opportunities to design and carve a huge and diverse spectrum of memorial carvings, many of which may not be practically possible in stone.

Wooden memorials have been at the heart of my business for the past nine or so years, and since the very first memorial, I was touched by the beauty and tranquility of a woodland burial, and recognized the benefits to my customers.

My wooden memorials are carved in English Oak, selected for its longevity, and visual suitability in the woodland. They are protected with exterior natural oil finishes, being easily maintained, and of minimal environmental impact.

In designing memorials, I like, where possible, to include things personal or symbolic to the family and the deceased, which could be anything from a favorite animal or flower, to bird carvings or wildlife carving, to a hobby (camera, binoculars, garden trowel), to something mythical such as a woodland fairy carving, a dragon carving, or even carved cartoon and film characters.

I offer wooden memorials as a service rather than a business, meeting the client’s needs with sensitivity and respect. Wherever possible I like to meet with clients and families to sympathetically discuss the design and the process, and like to involve them in each stage to make the piece as unique and individual as possible.  This can also still be done over the internet if meetings are not possible for whatever reason. I can also email pictures of the carving process if required.

Memorials are always designed to suit the regulations of the particular burial ground they are destined for, and drawings can be provided wherever required.  I like to keep the process as simple and pleasant as possible for families and loved ones, in a difficult time, in order that the experience, and finished piece be a positive one which benefits them.

Please note that due to the nature of the memorial carving process, and the large number of memorial commissions I normally have at any given time, waiting times can vary greatly.  Please enquire.

Please feel free to contact me with no obligation, if you wish to discuss your particular memorial requirements, or for advice regarding any aspect of wooden memorial carvings.
